Meet the Doula!

My name is Cassandra (Cassie) Childs and I am a wife, mother of three children and a certified birth doula. I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a mother some day and I have always had an interest in birth work. Becoming a mother only amplified that interest into full blown passion! I had unmedicated natural births with all three of my children, one with a doula and two without, so I’ve experienced first hand the difference between having doula support vs not, which is what led me to want to become a doula myself.

For me, pregnancy was not easy. With all three of my children I had a condition called hyperemesis gravidarum, which is a fancy way of saying I was miserably sick for the entire nine months each pregnancy. But God showed me mercy when it came to labor and delivery, granting me labors that were less than 5 hours with my first two children and a precipitous ONE hour labor with my third! We just barely made it to the hospital in time to meet our precious youngest daughter!

When I’m not tending to my kids, you may find me exploring a nice nature trail or tending to my 30+ house plants! I love spending time outdoors in creation where I find the most peace and comfort. I also enjoy writing, which is why I love offering a written birth story to my clients because what better topic to write about than what I’m most passionate about, birth!

I believe that birth is a sacred and transformative event that should be treated as such. My goal in supporting you is to empower you with knowledge and confidence to give birth the way you feel is right for you, whether that is in a hospital or the comfort of your own home. I offer evidence based information so that you can make informed decisions for yourself and for baby and I teach you how to advocate for yourself with confidence. Birth is a natural process that we have been conditioned to fear but the truth is, you were made for this! Birth does not always need to be treated like a medical event and with the right support, natural physiological birth the way God intended IS possible!

My husband and I are so thankful we listened to the Lord. We lean on the Holy Spirit for all things; like how 1 Corinthians 12:6 says, "And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all;" we operate in a very specific way in the Lord but knew we needed a Christian doula to help us walk through our second birthing in a hospital setting. We were given a list of doulas at a home in Pennsylvania from a saved mother of 9. My husband asked the Lord which one should we reach out to for doula services and the Holy Spirit said "Cassie." Cassie always came to each of our sessions with a bright smile on her face and a bag of information including lab value explanations and cards full of scriptures, ready to discuss our needs and offer help where she could. She was very accommodating and we met her either half-way from each of our locations at a bookstore, or at our home, or at her house, and then for the birth, we met at the hospital. And how life would have it, plans changed along our birthing journey where we were led to switch OB/GYNs and delivery hospital services for the optimal safety of our child and also for the ultimate plan of the Holy Spirit for our second born's birth. Cassie aligned with us as Amos 3:3 states "Can two walk together, except they be agreed?" She took in the updated hospital address and met us there. She stayed with us throughout the early labor, transition, and delivery. Cassie provided comfort, care, a sweet spirit, and offered valuable information that helped us speak confidently with our providers and also prepare for movements during the third trimester and early labor. We had a very specific prayer regarding our birth delivery and Cassie helped us to achieve that. We are very private people so what I can share is that I wanted my young firstborn toddler to be present for delivery, the active pushing to be short, minimal tears, minimal bleeding, and no pain. At 6 cm dilation, I was so frustrated when my contractions got stronger because they were uncomfortable and I didn't have any pain my first birth and wanted the same for this one. I realized after the fact that God actually gave me my exact prayer because when I went back and looked: I only asked Him for a painless transition (pushing part of delivery), which He gave me! Once my water broke, and the nurses rushed me to the bed to push and Cassie began sharing scripture cards and encouraging me that my body was designed for this, I literally pushed in 25 minutes (and realized a few days later) I actually didn't FEEL any pain during that crowning to delivery transition process. Just the discomfort of feeling like I needed to poop haha. God granted me the minimal tear, thanks to Cassie's exercise guidance and perineum information beforehand, very minimal bleeding, and our toddler was present during delivery. Cassie even played Uno with him at one point to keep him calm and less distractible. The Holy Spirit revealed to us why Cassie is called to this line of work and the authoritative role God has designed in His perfect will for her to carry out. She truly is operating in faith by surrendering herself to her calling of birth services and helping others walk in their authority in Christ to have a biblical birthing experience.
